In the test equipment world, water is the  worst enemy, so we have a tough standard for the word "waterproof". Our telephone  test sets are proof tested to an IEC IP67 rating. Meaning, these units will not only withstand a monsoon rain, they can actually be submersed in water for a period of time. (It isn't likely for that to occur because all models will actually float!) Our new plastics even won the Modern Plastics International Design Award for Electronics.

When working around telephone wiring, the chance that you will encounter digital service lines increases every day. An ordinary telephone test set can damage digital service lines or at the very least, knock them out of service for a while. With DigAlert protection you don't have to worry about accidentally intruding into digital services like ADSL, ISDN, T-1 and other high capacity circuits. We've even incorporated a unique over-voltage alarm and lockout feature in all five models in case you accidentally connect to a DSL power feed.

Load Coil Detector

Model 88 does what no other affordable, hand-held tester can. It will identify the presence and count the number of load coils on an active or inactive circuit. No complicated screens or test instructions to decipher. Designed to withstand the rigors of daily use, the Model 88 speeds troubleshooting dedicated data circuits. Simply connect the test leads and turn the switch. It's that easy. While gradually turning the control, the display will "kick" to signify each coil detected on the pair. The tester will accurately identify and count up to four load coils on the circuit under test.

The Sidekick 7B is the test set used in every major telephone company in the United States to troubleshoot twisted pair applications. This lightweight, hand-held meter quickly and accurately uncovers intermittent troubles that other test sets can't detect. Since the introduction of the patented Stress Test and Leakage Test in 1991, the Sidekick has become a benchmark in communications technology. Technicians now have the versatility to identify faults in locations ranging from outside plant cable to inside wiring, and from closures to connecting blocks, without sacrificing standard features,e.g., AC/DC, VOM, Kick Meter, they have come to rely on. The versatile Sidekick 7B is used throughout the telephony industry, including LAN/WAN, Private Networks, and BICSI applications.

STRESS TEST

The Stress Test reads the audible noise produced on a faulted pair that is stressed by a 90 dBrn longitudinal excitation. The Stress Test determines the capacitive and series resistance ba lance characteristics of twisted pair at any point along the pair. It is capable of identifying DC resistive or capacitive imbalances undetected by other subscriber loop tests. The Stress Test is also highly effective in identifying imbalances produced by series resistance opens (high joints).

LEAKAGE TEST

The Leakage Test detects intermittent resistance faults that do not appear under normal VOM tests. When a faulted pair is taken out of service, galvanic action forms an insulating oxide layer over the faults. When returned to service, such pairs develop "noisy static" in a relatively short period of time. The Leakage Test uses 135 Volts to "punch through" the oxide layer and reveal the fault.
